Why You Feel Slow in Boxing (And How To Fix It)

Most boxers don’t have a discipline problem. They have a feedback problem.

My name is Aarron Morgan. I am a former national amateur champion, former Team GB trialist, former professional boxer, and a licensed BBBofC professional trainer. I have trained at an elite level, and I now coach beginners who believe they are terrible at boxing, when the real issue is a lack of structure and correction.

Most people are not bad. They are guessing.

If you feel slow when you are boxing, this is one of the most common issues I see when reviewing footage. If you want your movement and timing looked at properly, you can send me your video, and I will break it down clearly for you.

You Feel Like You Cannot Keep Up.

You are trying to stay sharp.

You are focusing on your punches, your reactions, your movement.

But everything feels a step behind.

Your shots feel slow. Your reactions feel delayed. It feels like your opponent is always one step ahead.

That is frustrating, especially when you are putting the effort in.

What You Think The Problem Is

Most beginners assume they are just not fast enough.

They think they need quicker hands or better reactions.

That is not usually the real issue.

What Is Actually Happening

You are out of position.

You are either too close or too far away, so every action becomes forced.

Your hands have to travel further than they should.

Your reactions take longer because you are not set properly.

This makes everything feel slow.

Why It Feels Like a Speed Problem

When you are in the wrong place, you are always adjusting.

You are reaching, leaning, or rushing to make up distance.

That delay makes it feel like your speed is the problem.

In reality, it is your positioning.

The Simple Correction

Fix your feet first.

Be in the right place before you throw.

Do not try to force speed from bad positions.

When your feet are set and your distance is right, your hands move naturally faster.

Speed in boxing is often a result of good positioning, not just fast movement.

Why This Changes Everything

Once you are in the correct range and balanced, your reactions improve.

Your punches become cleaner. Your timing improves. Everything feels more controlled.

That is when your boxing starts to feel smoother.

The Fastest Way To Fix It

This is difficult to spot on your own.

You might feel like you are in the right place, but small positioning errors make a big difference.

If you want this corrected properly, send your footage, and I will show you exactly where you are out of position and what to change.

Final Word

You are not slow.

You are just not in the right place at the right time, and that has not been corrected yet.

Fix that, and everything starts to speed up.
